This paper updated the July 2013 systematic review on hormonal contraception and HIV acquisition in women by incorporating new epidemiological evidence published between December 15, 2011, and January 15, 2014. The research question is whether specific methods of hormonal contraception influence a woman’s risk of HIV acquisition. Data included in this systematic review were presented at the WHO guideline development meeting in March 2014.
